Last week it was announced that Laura Neal will be going the new Harry Potter series for HBO as a writer. Her other credits include Killing Eve, Turn Up Charlie, Sex Education, Tatau, My Mad Fat Diary, Coming Up, and Secret Diary of a Call Girl.

The announcement was made at the same time it was announced that Andy Greenwald and Josephine Gardiner will be joining the team.

Neal’s appointment brings a wealth of experience in television writing to the Harry Potter franchise. Her most notable work includes serving as the head writer for the fourth and final season of the critically acclaimed series “Killing Eve.” She has also contributed her talents to other popular shows such as “Sex Education” and “Secret Diary of a Call Girl.”

Throughout her career, Neal has demonstrated skill in crafting complex characters and narratives that blend different genres. Her experience with ensemble casts and long-form storytelling on television is likely to be valuable as the series aims to adapt each of J.K. Rowling’s seven Harry Potter books into full seasons.

The new Harry Potter series, which was officially announced by Warner Bros. Discovery for their Max streaming platform (formerly HBO Max), promises to be a faithful retelling of the original seven books. Each season is expected to focus on one book, allowing for a more in-depth exploration of the wizarding world than was possible in the film adaptations.

Neal’s involvement in the project suggests that the production team is committed to bringing fresh, experienced talent to this new adaptation of the beloved franchise. Fans will be eager to see how her unique voice might contribute to the portrayal of Harry’s magical world on the small screen.

As development on the series continues, more details about the creative team, cast, and production schedule are expected to be revealed. The show is anticipated to be released sometime in 2025 or 2026, though an exact release date has not yet been confirmed.

For fans of both Laura Neal’s previous work and the Harry Potter series, this collaboration promises to bring an exciting new chapter to the wizarding world.
